The name is based on the Shakespeare quote, “Though she be but little, she is fierce.” This quote has special meaning to me because I am only 5 feet tall. My younger sister, on the other hand, was blessed with the gift of height. When I was in the sixth grade and she was in the third, she passed me up in height. I was devastated. Everyone that I met assumed that she was older because she was taller. I could not stand being called “tiny” and “cute.” I wanted to be considered a young lady, not a little girl!
A few weeks after my sister passed me up, I saw a small bag on my bed. I opened it and inside found a necklace with the Shakespeare quote engraved on the front. My mom had given me the necklace because she knew how upset I was about my height. I wore the necklace with pride, and continue to wear it to this day.
The quote has a special place in my heart because it reminds me that height (and looks in general) do not dictate who you are as a person. I can be a fierce girl without being tall and easily seen. With my loud voice, I can blow a crowd away. I have become more comfortable with who I am because my mom gave me the necklace, and I hope that it will inspire other girls to feel the same way.
