Be HUMBLE.

“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.” ― David McCullough Jr.
As once quoted by Kendrick Lamar, “Be humble”. But what does it mean to be humble? Why are we taught to have humility? Why place such importance on modesty?
It’s not to belittle ourselves, but rather appreciate others more. When we learn to be modest, we learn, in return, to commend others and recognize their achievements. I believe it is this selflessness that is the real reason for being humble. It is only once we learn to place less emphasis on our own success that we truly appreciate others.
“True humility is having the understanding that, even as a small seed, we are still an important part of the greater plan. However, we are not the master planner.” -Tanya Copprue
Being humble also allows us to appreciate the blessings in our own lives and seek the betterment of ourselves. By never feeling as though we have enough, we can often place a negative emphasis on obtaining material things. However, if you use this dissatisfaction in a positive way, we learn to never settle and constantly seek improvement for the better in all aspects of life.
“Being humble means recognizing that we are not on earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others.” –Gordon B. Hinckley
Lastly, it’s important to remember you can be confident and humble. The key is to be confident in a modest way instead of being confident in a cocky way, and knowing the difference. You do not have to walk around telling others how great you are, but keeping your head up, shoulders down, and a smile on your face just may help someone else be more confident too.
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” –C.S. Lewis
