Love Through It All!
written by Rachel W.
“Worrying won’t prevent the worst outcome. I’ve learned to live in the moment, which is not my natural tendency.”
Tracy Pollan, an American actress known for her role in Family Ties (1985-1987), is the perfect example for our theme because of her marriage to Michael J. Fox and the way she models her life with her family.
Born in New York on June 22, 1960, she made her acting debut in the 80s. She was cast in several TV films and shows before she portrayed Ellen Reed in the show Family Ties. On the set of this show she met Michael J. Fox (and actually played his girlfriend!), but it was not until they met on the set of Bright Lights, Big City a few years later that they pursued a relationship. The pair married in 1988 and have since had four children together.
No matter the situation, Pollan and Fox have kept their marriage and love strong. In 1991, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects control over motion. Though the disease radically changed the couple’s lives, they have remained positive. Fox has spoken numerous times about his experience, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation advocates on behalf of those who suffer from the disease as well. Pollan has remained a strong support system for Fox through his life, with Fox even saying that he has “won the lottery in the wife department.”
The lesson that can be learned from Tracy Pollan is that love can weather any storm. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple said:
Fox – “Through it all we’ve loved each other…”
Pollan – “And that love never died. We had a solid foundation to begin with.”
She has shown that no matter what, she is willing to work through any challenges to become a better wife, mom, friend, etc.
