Tuesday Tidbit: Money-Saving Tricks
written by Rachel W.
Making money is only half the battle. It can sometimes be hard to save up money, but follow these tips and you can work towards saving more!
- Remember that while it is important to save, you can still let yourself spend some of your money. A trick that I use is to keep about 25-50% of what you make for spending, and to put the other portion away.
- Look for sales and coupons at more expensive stores! It can sometimes be a pain to try and wait for things you like to go on sale, but it is worth it when you don’t pay full price.
- Thrift store shopping is a fun way to get vintage clothes without paying full price! They will often have extremely cute items of clothing if you are willing to look.
- One of the biggest things I spend my money on is food (no surprise there). Try to avoid unnecessary purchases on food, especially if you already have food at home.
- If you are trying to save for a certain thing you want (like a car or something else that is expensive), set reasonable goals for yourself. Thinking about the big picture can be overwhelming, so if you focus on what you can save in a week or a month, it is much more manageable!
- Instead of buying a friend an expensive gift for a birthday or Christmas, make them something unique! Remember: it’s the thought that counts, and they are sure to appreciate anything that they know you put effort into.
- Overall, always remember you are saving for your own good. If you think of that whenever you want to spend money it might prevent you from making unnecessary purchases!
